CEDAR HILL (CBSDFW.COM) – It’s the middle of the week and three students were doing what students do around 7:45 in the morning – wait for the school bus. Things went wrong when a man approached the group and tried to rob them.

The three boys, all students at Duncanville High School, were waiting for the school bus near Mcalister Street and Straus Road in Cedar Hill when a man wearing a mask walked up, pulled out a gun and tried to rob them.

According to Lieutenant Colin Chenault, with the Cedar Hill Police Department, one of the boys got into a scuffle with the would-be-robber and the gun the suspect had fired.

Chenault said, “The victim was struck in a lower leg. He fell to the ground while the other two students took off running. The suspect also took off running.”

The victim was left alone at the scene, so he waited for the bus. According to Chenault, “He actually got on the school bus and went to school. He had made a report to the bus driver, medics were contacted and they later transported him to the hospital.”

The victim is recovering in the hospital but isn’t believed to be seriously injured.

Police have identified the two witnesses and plan to interview them later today. The suspect is still on the loose.

Later Wednesday, police released surveillance video of the suspect.
