FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – The fast, heavy morning rains caused problems on roadways across North Texas.
A school bus, caught in floodwaters, slid off the road at State Highway 114 and Blue Mound Road, in far north Fort Worth. The driver said she was finishing her route and was stopped at a red light when a sudden rush of water swept the bus off the road. The bus veered into a water-filled ditch.
Firefighters were called to the scene, but a high-water rescue wasn’t necessary.
The driver was able to get out safely. There were no students on the bus operated by Durham School Services.
Emily Conklin, a spokesperson with the Northwest Independent School District, said, “We are so glad no one was injured. We’re encouraging all of our students to be safe out there today.”
No word on exactly which school the bus was headed.
Minutes after the incident, Northwest ISD administrators sent an alert to parents notifying them that because of the weather bus schedules were running 15 to 20 minutes late.
