DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – A lot of North Texas school districts fighting budget shortfalls are enthusiastically getting on board with a plan to sell ads on the side of buses.
The plan to sell ads on the back lower half of large buses was first pitched several months ago, and some of the districts Dallas County Schools operates buses for were skeptical. But, Susan Falvo with Dallas County Schools says strict guidelines on the ads and sharing the profits with the districts have made the program an initial success.

“They can have the extra teacher, buy the extra school books. Whatever they decide to use that for,” Falvo told KRLD. She says the extra money could make a big difference, especially for the smaller districts.
The ads are already on more than 200 Dallas County school buses. The goal is to have them on 500, roughly half of the large fleet, in the months ahead. Initial projections estimate the ads will bring in a million dollars this year.
