HOUSTON (CBSDFW.COM/AP) – A school bus overturned in Houston Tuesday morning, killing two students and injuring several others. The Houston Fire Department described the early morning crash as a major accident with multiple injuries.
“The school bus was going eastbound on 610 South Loop east and was involved in an accident on the freeway. It came over the guardrail and landed in the middle of an intersection below” said Houston Fire Department spokesman Jay Evans.
The crash was reported at around 7:00 a.m. and is still under investigation.
Images from the scene show the school bus on its side at the intersection of the South Loop Freeway and Telephone Road. The bus rolled off of the freeway overpass and landed on the road below, said school district spokeswoman Ashley Anthony. Guard rails were damaged in the process.

The bus was heading to Furr High School, also home to REACH Charter High School, and carrying four students, according to the Houston Independent School District. Two unidentified females did not survive. Other students and the driver were taken to local hospitals with serious injuries.
Houston operates the largest public school district in Texas with about 215,000 students.
